Bomb Blasts Military Recruitment Station in NYC
Sometimes the news in the morning just warms your heart… first, millions of dollars worth of property damage to wealthy mansions and now a damaged and closed recruitment station, what’s next, rioting in the streets? (God I hope so)
It’s about time people started fighting back against this system. Granted, violent confrontation can only get you so far, but it is a step in the right direction and will hopefully help break the spell our populous is under thanks to societal artifacts like the class system and the military industrial complex. In the Immortal words of Gloria Steinem:
“The truth will set you free; but first it will piss you off.”
It’s good to see people getting pissed off…

NEW YORK, March 6 - A small explosion caused minor damage to a U.S. military recruiting center in New York’s Times Square area in the early hours of Thursday but there were no injuries, police said.
Police said a small improvised explosive device caused minor damage to the building around 3:45 a.m. (0845 GMT). The thick glass door was cracked and the lower part of its metal frame was twisted. The blast also shattered a window encasing the classic recruiting poster of Uncle Sam saying, “I want you.”
The explosion, which authorities said appeared to have been directed at the recruiting center, occurred in the early hours of the morning, when there there are few people in the often bustling area in the heart of Manhattan.
The U.S. Homeland Security Department said there was no sign of an immediate threat to the United States from the blast, and said the FBI was taking part in a probe of it.
Asked whether there were any indications the blast was terrorism-related, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said: “It doesn’t appear to be but again the investigation is still ongoing,” she said.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the explosion appeared aimed at the recruiting station.
“The fact that this appears deliberately targeted at the recruiting station insults every one of our brave men and women in uniform stationed around the world,” Bloomberg told a news conference in Times Square.
New Yorkers have been sensitive about such incidents since hijacked plane attacks destroyed the World Trade Center towers in Manhattan on Sept. 11, 2001. The Twin Towers were also targeted in 1993 by a truck bomb attack that killed six people.
Capt. Charles Jaquillard, who is in charge of U.S. Army recruiting in Manhattan and works in the center, told Reuters at the scene that nobody was in the building when the explosion occurred.
Asked if he thought it was a terrorist attack, Jaquillard said: “I don’t know. Obviously there’s some concern, but we’ll see what the investigation will determine.”
Nino Reyes, 26, said he had just opened his coffee and snack stand when he heard an explosion and saw a plume of red smoke shoot up and then turn black. He said he saw three or four people running away.
Thursday’s incident occurred days before the fifth anniversary on March 19th of the start of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. U.S. public support for the war has dropped in recent years.
Times Square also is the site where hundreds of thousands of revelers gather every New Year’s Eve in a celebration that has become a focus of intense police security.

The problem is that you see the world in too narrow a scope to actually have reasonable debate (or in this case, debate lead by reason) instead you see the world as all the ruling class would have you; democrats vs. republicans, coke vs. pepsi, good vs. evil. My dear friend, every debate is made of come backs. When some one retorts too a comment by a fellow debater, thats called a come back, among other things.
If you re-read my initial post I only called you a left wing liberal, the rest was mainly my frustration at the senseless organizations.
And while I do admit that my first post was quite uncalled for and a little over the top, I blame it on the fact that these people who say they are are trying to get “Peace”, are committing acts of violence to achieve it.
I do apologize for calling you a left wingist, it was uncalled for. Yet, I still stand behind the fact that organizations such as, Code Pink and The World Can’t Wait, are fascist pigs who know nothing of what our troops are trying to achieve.
So to sum it all up, I am sorry for any insults I may have instilled upon you and blame them on my heated moment of frustration.

To address your initial post then, anti-war does not mean that you are a pacifist who does not commit violence. To me, war is the most violent thing on the planet. Any action done to halt it, no matter how big, will never amount to the damage wrought by nation-states fighting. Besides, no one was even hurt in this attack, and I REALLY don’t think violence against private property and violence against an individual (or two whole countries in this case) are remotely comparable.
I have never been mad at the troops who joined to “defend America” because that is what they truly believe because that was the lie that was sold to them. Obviously Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and we found no evidence of WMD’s, so all preconceived notions of the “need” for war against this country were fabricated to meet the needs of our rulership.
I have two friends serving in Iraq right now, I would like nothing more than for them, and all those I don’t know, to make it out alive. Unfortunately I think they are fighting for a bull shit cause. A cause that serves only a few and the cost of many.
So yes, I believe we should do everything in our power to not only stop this war, but stop all war that benefits the few and recruits our friends and sons/daughters to die for nothing more than political power, regional influence, and resource.
I would burn the white house to the ground if it would stop the war, but we both know it won’t. This direct action is symbolic; it was meant to make people think about what it must be like for people in Iraq to live among such audacious violence as well as stop at least one military recruiters office for just one day.

The case of looking for the WMD was the initial cause of us going to war besides the fact we went after Bin Laden in Afghanistan, the focus of the war now turned towards trying to procure freedom for the Iraqi people.
Most of them support our troops and are glad that we are trying to free them from the overbearing Iraqi, “terrorist” groups that are trying to seize control of their country again.
I do agree that the war is turning into a futile attempt at freeing the Iraqi people and wish we could end it as well but I see absolutely no sense in resulting to violence to attain it.
